CentraState brings back tradition of Ball Queen April 04, 2012
The CentraState Healthcare Foundation is reviving a tradition from days gone by and bringing back a Ball Queen Contest this year in honor of the 50th anniversary of its Charity Ball. The queen contestants are asked to raise money for CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. For every dollar each contestant raises, a vote is cast. The contestant who receives the most votes at the end of the contest will be crowned Ball Queen.
New timeline tells history of hospital April 03, 2012
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — CentraState officials unveiled a timeline exhibit at the hospital tracing the founding and growth of CentraState Healthcare System over the last five decades at a ceremony on May 4. They were joined by current and former hospital Trustees, employees and physicians, public officials, civic leaders, community volunteers and other guests. The 84-foot long exhibit is located in the walkway that connects CentraState Medical Center to the Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus.

CentraState foundation awards scholarships

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — The CentraState Healthcare Foundation recently awarded scholarships to three young women who were contestants in CentraState’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Ball Queen Contest.

The recipients of the scholarships are DaraAdes of Marlboro, Ijeaoma Unachukwu of the Morganville section of Marlboro, and Danielle Piccolini of Freehold, who received scholarships for $2,000, $1,000 and $500, respectively.

These scholarships, open to all of the 10 Ball Queen contestants, were based on academic achievement, an applicant essay and community service.

In addition, the CentraState Healthcare Foundation awards scholarships annually to young people who aspire to work in the health care field and to employees who are continuing their education. Since 2005, CentraState Healthcare System has awarded scholarships totaling more than $169,000, according to a press release.

Earlier in the year, in honor of CentraState’s 40th anniversary, the foundation awarded $1,000 health professions scholarships to a graduating senior in each of the nine high schools in the hospital’s service area .

The 2011 scholarships were presented to Javad Mirza, Freehold High School; Dana Ronan, Freehold Township High School; Samantha Hirsch, Colts Neck High School; Ethan Pearlstein, Howell High School; Jeremy Puthumana, Manalapan High School; Adam Morabito, Marlboro High School; Maria Exarchakis, Monroe Township High School; Victoria Czabafy, Jackson Liberty High School; and Breynn Collazo, Wall High School.

The foundation also awarded four scholarships totaling $5,000 to students graduating fromthe Freehold Regional High School District’s Medical Sciences program at Freehold High School. Lesley Wu of Marlboro received the Band Aid Open Scholarship; Christopher Payette of Howell received the DCHToyota Scholarship; Shravan Savant of the Morganville section of Marlboro received the Norkus Charitable Foundation Scholarship; and Nikhil Keny of the Morganville section of Marlboro received the Anthony Franklin Memorial Scholarship.

The following scholarships were awarded to CentraState employees who are continuing their education.

The 2011 winners of the Selma Lopatin Nursing Scholarship Fund are Melina Hughes of Toms River and Nathalie Shostak-Levy of Howell. The winners of the Rita Ann Zupa Memorial Scholarship fund are Ellen Ciacciarelli of Howell, Cathleen Janzekovich of Monroe Township and Nicole Buccino of Jackson.

The recipients of the Mathew Trancho Memorial Scholarship are Melina Hughes of Toms River, Nathalie Shostak-Levy of Howell and Kimberly McKenzie of Jackson. Dawn Van Wie of Howell received the 2011 Kovats Gerontology and Healthcare Management Memorial Scholarship.

The employees at Applewood Estates or their children who received scholarships through the Applewood Estates Non-Clinical Employee Fund are Samantha Wong of Marlboro, Francesca Yaccarine of Freehold, Jennifer Green of Jackson, Matthew Solomon of Marlboro, Jason Louie of Manalapan, Samantha Reynolds of Howell and Ashley Fazzio of Freehold. The Anna C. Stewart Smythe Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Amandalee Roman of Howell.
